The Annual 108th South Haven Fair

By Claire Minor and Laney Luecke

On August 22-24, 2024 there was a series of events at the South Haven Fair. This includes the car show, the fair games, the parade, bouncy houses, the button drawing, a concert performed by the Gus Burns band, and all sorts of vendors inside the community building. The parade has always been a favorite at this time of year. The fair is a way people represent their businesses, show accomplishments like Miss South Haven, and keep kids happy with the candy thrown from the vehicles.

Some of the businesses that were shown in the parade were Strickland’s Road Service, Moreland’s Farms, and Morrison’s Construction. Different associations like the South Haven Fire Department, The American Legion, The South Sumner Outlaw football players and cheerleaders, Newman University, and many others were also shown in the parade.

Pre-season for average high school boys can get pretty chaotic, due to football, the South Haven Fair, and the fair parade. Now let’s get into detail and review this year’s South Haven 2024 South Haven Fair and parade.

The Outlaws football team had to be shown in the parade. The senior boys said that they felt thrilled because everyone was there watching and cheering for them. The boys would like to thank the community for their continuous help and the VanZants, especially for letting them ride on their trailer. The boys would also like to mention how they are extremely excited and ready for this year’s 11 man football season, and can’t wait to make their last memories.

This year’s Outlaw Cheer had yet again another great performance, at this year’s South Haven 2024 Fair and parade. One of the cheer captains, Annabelle Burden, said, “Our performance went pretty good, we got to show off some of our new cheers and got to show what we worked on all summer for.” Burden also said that “The parade walk was really fun because everyone there was cheering with us.” The Outlaw cheerleaders are very excited and ready for this year’s season to come and show some outlaw spirit.

Mayor, SHFD member, and the secretary of South Haven Schools, Jessica Brown noted that there seemed to be less high schoolers in attendance than in previous years at the fair. But due to the circumstances, it was an amazing outcome. Brown would also like to shout out the Gus Burns concert, because she really enjoyed it.

Former Mayor, member of the SHFD, treasurer of the South Haven Baptist Church, treasurer of South Haven Schools, and member of the fair board, Don Minor mentioned that the outcome was better than they ever expected without the usual atmosphere of a carnival. Minor stated that “The fair is nothing without the community behind it.”
