On Friday, September 6, South Sumner played against Pleasanton, winning 49-7 in the season opener. Head Coach Sean Blosser and seniors Tanner Kelly, Alex Shore, Colby Irey, Brady Russell, Layten Caruthers, and Collin Rains led the team to a victory.
One of the starters on offense and defense, Maddox Pond, was interviewed over the Pleasanton game. Pond was asked what his experience with football was and said ¨I’ve been playing tackle football since the third grade. I started playing tackle football in Wellington for their youth football program.” Pond’s favorite teammate is Alex Shore because he is a great leader and leads the wide receiver core.
Pond had a great game over Pleasanton scoring one touchdown and had a few tackles. The drive over to Pleasanton Kansas was three and a half-hour drive the team was taken over by a charter bus which Pond said was his favorite part of the drive and of course the win.
Pond starts defense playing cornerback and he starts offense playing wide receiver. Pond’s dad, Justin Pond, inspired Maddox to play football because his dad played high school and college football. The Outlaws have a great season ahead of them and so they are going to continue to win football games.
