The South Haven High School band is an ensemble of eight different students ranging from freshmen to seniors. This year, the band is under a new director Keeley Coon who just began her teaching career.
The high school band participates in different things such as marching band, pep band, concerts, and more, the band marched at the Kansas State Fair and plays at the football games in both Caldwell and South Haven as the South Sumner Outlaw Band. At the games, the band performs pieces that the cheerleaders dance to or they preform during halftime to entertain the crowd while the cheerleaders and players get a break.
One of the high school band members, Jessica Broyles, a sophmore who has been in the band for six years says, “The band has really improved this year and has worked really hard on some new pieces.” Broyles is a clarinet player for the South Haven band and enjoys both marching band and pep band. Excitedly, she speaks about how she enjoys the band’s new director and is happy to be one of the first classes Coon has taught.
The South Haven band has been working hard this year and can’t wait to show people that at the football and basketball games later this year and even their concerts.
