Blood, Sweat, and Steers: South Haven FFA and Happy Hustler 4-H Members Take Their Livestock to the State Fair

By Michelle Tevington

Over the last few months, South Haven FFA and 4-H members have been working hard with their livestock. We were lucky enough to have three representatives at the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive. These three FFA and 4-H members walked away bettering their showmanship skills and creating great memories.

Cole Spencer, a South Haven FFA member took his breeding gilt and competed on Sunday, September 8. Spencer worked hard but came up short placing tenth in class. That marks the end of the road for Spencer’s show season.

Michelle Tevington, a Happy Hustler 4-H member, showed her weather goat and her breeding doe. Tevington competed in showmanship but did not receive a call back for the final round. Her doe placed tenth in class. Her weather goat placed eighth in class. Tevington will be attending the Kansas Junior Livestock Show at the end of the month with her goats.

Henry Thuerer showed three beef animals. His Charolais steer got third overall breed champion. His other two market animals got seventh and eighth in class. He will also be showing at the end of the month.

We are so proud of everyone who represented South Haven in the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive.
