First Outing For The South Haven FFA Greenhand Team

By Michelle Tevington

On September 18, the South Haven FFA went to the South Central District FFA Greenhand Conference. This year, the organization gained eleven new FFA members.

What are Greenhands? In FFA, greenhands are members who are taking their first year of high school-level agriculture classes and participating in contests and events.

Greenhand Conference is held to introduce new FFA members to Vocational Agriculture. FFA members were split into small groups and sent to stations. Some stations cover contests members can attend. Other stations are about careers in agriculture. The final station is a test. Members are quizzed on their knowledge of dates, terminology, and the history of FFA.

Jett Bohannon placed 4th in the spell down.

When asked what the best part of the day was, most of the greenhands said lunch. They got to go enjoy some Freddy’s. With such a great meal, an afternoon nap on the ride home is a must! We are so excited to see what each of these students adds to the program.
