The South Haven Lady Cardinal’s 2024 Volleyball Season

By Claire Minor

This volleyball season for the girls was a bit of an adjustment due to a couple of new changes that were made this year. One big difference was the new head coach, Jenni Cully, and assistant coach, Rheann Heater, along with their teaching styles. Overall, this team didn’t have the best luck when it came to victories, but they had multiple close-calls and great games throughout the season.

A senior at South Haven Schools, Aubrey Pond, has played volleyball for around 13 years and was a hitter and setter for the South Haven volleyball team. Pond believes that she provided leadership, a positive attitude, and a hard work ethic to her team. Pond’s favorite part about the 2024 volleyball season was Senior Night because the girls played like a team and tried really hard.

When asked if she liked volleyball, Pond replied, “Yes, I love volleyball. I loved that we were like a family on and off the court.” Pond expressed that she liked having the new coaches because the team was brought with new challenges and drills to work on throughout the season. Pond has said that this volleyball season has taught her to become a better leader, and allowed her to learn new skills that she can take with her throughout the upcoming basketball season!

A freshman at South Haven Schools, Adalyn Irey, has played volleyball for roughly seven years and was an outside and right side hitter for the South Haven volleyball team. Irey believes that she provided a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her team. Irey’s favorite part about the 2024 volleyball season was making new friends.

When asked if she liked volleyball, Irey replied “I really liked volleyball this year. It was super fun and I liked that it moved at a faster pace.” Irey expressed that she liked the new coaches because they were both really supportive and always pushed the team to do their best while making sure they also had fun. Irey has said that this volleyball season has taught her about teamwork and sportsmanship, and gave her memories that she’ll always cherish.

It sounds like this 2024 volleyball season for the South Haven Lady Cardinals was a success despite any of the scores.
