On Nov. 6, 2024 the South Haven FFA decided to participate in an entomology competition this year in Harper, KS. The students at South Haven that were a part of the competition were sophomores Avery Strickland and Madison Ferguson, and juniors Arallai Wartick and Kelly Theurer.
Entomology is the study of insects and their lifestyles. The competition contained 50 species of different insects and the students had to take a test over the orders of the insects and answer miscellaneous questions.
Strickland got the highest score out of the four, which was 14th place. When asked if she enjoyed the experience, Strickland said “10/10 would recommend,” along with her expressing how much she liked getting gummy sharks and her and Theurer pushing Ferguson and Wartick around on a cart.
For the South Haven team’s first time participating in an entomology competition, getting seventh place overall is an outstanding achievement. It sounded like an amazing time and all we can do now is hope that they end up doing it next year!
