The South Haven cross country team concluded their season on Nov. 2, 2024. The last race they ran was State. With a very muddy and slippery run the team managed to do pretty well. Although they didn’t all have their best times and best race, they had a lot of fun.
Through the season the team worked hard to do as good as they could although they faced many injuries they persevered and pushed harder to get better. There were a lot of races where they took home quite a few medals and some where almost everyone medaled.
The eighth grade girls finished their season on Oct. 17, 2024, at League. These two girls worked very hard this season and there is much excitement for them to be coming into freshman year. They ran well this season, medaling at all their races.
The team worked so hard this season and these athletes pushed themselves a lot. Eli Buettgenbach, a junior runner, said, “My favorite part of the season was hanging out with my team in the hotel at state,” and, when asked how he felt the season went, he said, “From transferring from a school that was really good at cross to not having a boys team and not quite the same training, I was able to get a personal record.”
One athlete who ran for her first year this year and faced several issues was Makenzie Callison, and when asked what helped her preserve she said, “Having the team be by my side all the time.” The team did very well this season and manage to do a lot. We are very proud of them and ready to see where they go next year.
