The Cardinal Basketball Teams Shoot to Their First Games

By Annabelle Burden

On Monday Dec. 2, 2024 the South Haven High School Cardinal Basketball teams traveled to Sedgwick to play several different teams in a Basketball Jamboree. The Cardinal basketball teams played Conway Springs, Hutch Central Christian, and Sedgwick. There were three games, these games were played as four minutes playing like normal, with a one minute break for a “half time,” then another four minutes. Every game was played like this except the last game which, was a five minute running clock where you could work on situations.

The jamboree really showed these teams what they can improve on before their first game which is coming very soon. These teams will play in the Border Queen tournament and they are looking forward to showing some of the things they’ve been working on and trying to improve on. Kelly Theurer, a junior, says the jamboree “gave us different competition to see what we were giving up on offense and defense.” This is exciting for the team now knowing what they can work on and improve they can work hard to prepare for the upcoming tournament and season.

On the boys side of things, Dalton Kelly, a sophomore at South Haven, also knew what he needed to work on. When asked what he will work hard to improve on he said, “My defensive sliding and getting my feet under me, along with shooting.” When you are in a team sport it is good to know what you need to work on as an individual if you focus on those things and push yourself to improve you are more likely to succeed.

With a pretty good start to the season, the teams will play their first real game on Dec. 10, 2024 in the Border Queen Tournament. The excitement for the season is high and with practice these teams will only get better and improve. Good luck and good job to the Cardinal Basketball teams.
