The first grade is taught by Jessica Nefzger. They start off their busy day by having a morning meeting and working on UFLI skills. Throughout the day they participate in “math, and reading and library, and outside, and reading books and having so much fun,” said Layla, a student in first grade. Recently the students have been decorating their Christmas tree in their classroom and participating in Christmas activities.
After lunch, the students work on handwriting, math, science, social studies, and other STEM projects. Even after being taught all of these important things, they still find time to have fun. Jade Stroman said her favorite part of first grade is, “Going outside and coloring,” as well as playing with her friends. Nefzger is teaching the first graders very important lessons to help them throughout first grade and forward.
