On Jan. 7, 2025 the South Haven HS Lady Cardinals had a basketball game against the Attica Bulldogs at Attica High School. Unfortunately, they had their first loss of the season with a score of 46-60.
A junior at South Haven Schools, Kelly Theurer, has been playing basketball for 11 years. Theurer is a guard for the South Haven Cardinals. Theurer said that her favorite part of the game was when the team was ahead in the first quarter. Theurer said that the game could’ve gone better than it did due to many mistakes that could have been prevented, along with how she thought that she wasn’t as prepared as she could’ve been since the team didn’t have practice the day before the game. Theurer thought that the team as a whole could have improved on their rebounding and defense. If Theurer could change one thing about the game, it would be the team’s effort.
A teacher and coach at South Haven Schools, Michael Heater, has coached the highschool girl’s basketball team for 12 years. Heater said that his favorite part of the game was the opportunity to learn from the mistakes that were made. Heater said that the girls weren’t prepared and that they needed to work on their defense. Heater thought that the biggest challenge of the game was the communication distributed through the team. If Heater could change one thing about the game, it would be the team’s defensive effort.
Even though it hurt to see the South Haven Lady Cardinals lose for the first time all season, they are an amazing team and we can only look forward to what they will bring to the table next!
