The South Sumner Outlaw powerlifting team had a virtual meet hosted by Stanton County on Jan. 18. Many of the lifters are placed high in their lifts and will receive medals for those lifts.
One of the lifters, Annabelle Burden, was asked how she did and she replied, ¨I did okay. My lifts were good, but I need to fix my bench. I got a PR [personal record] in clean and I did good in squatting.¨
Burden was also asked if she enjoys lifting and being a part of the team, and she said, “I do enjoy lifting I have gained a lot of muscle since I started lifting, and it makes me feel good to see all my improvement and see my muscles. Joining powerlifting, I was kind of nervous because I didn’t think I would be good enough, but with some hype up from the coaches and some friends, it helped me to push myself and try something new.¨
The amounts she lifts on squat, her max, is 135 pounds. On bench, it is 80 pounds, and for clean her max is 100 pounds.
The next meet the team will participate in is in Wellington, Feb. 1. Burden was asked if she was ready for that meet and said, “No, I’m nervous because there’s going to be a lot more competition, and in previous years there wasn’t a 105 weight class, so I have to go up with a lot more competition.¨ Mr. Zane Aguilar and Mr. Mike Heater coach the South Sumner powerlifting team.
