On Jan. 17, 2025 the South Haven Cardinals played against the West Elk Patriots! Unfortunately, South Haven ended up losing 48-65.

A junior at South Haven Schools, Coal VanZant, has been playing basketball for six years. VanZant is a post for the South Haven Cardinals. VanZant said that his favorite part of the game was having fun during the good parts of the game. VanZant said that the game didn’t go too bad, expressing that the team had their good times and their bad. “They shot better than us. We could not hit anything.” Despite that, VanZant thought that the team was prepared. VanZant thought that they could improve on doing what they were assigned to do, along with stopping the ball and working on defense. If VanZant could change one thing about the game, it would be stopping their best player.

A para and coach at South Haven Schools, Zach Norris, is currently coaching the boy’s basketball team for the first time, in general, he has coached basketball for four years. Norris said that his favorite part of the game was when the team got competitive during the third quarter. Overall, he was not too thrilled. Norris said that the boys weren’t prepared but it was mostly his fault because they didn’t have the right game plan and were not focused. Norris thought that the biggest challenge of the game was trying to overcome the run that they went on and when the team got hot on shooting. If Norris could change one thing about the game, it would be, other than the score, the offensive execution and space of the game.
Even though it’s upsetting to see the South Haven Cardinals lose, they are a great team and we can’t wait to see what else they can do!
