The Cheer Team Surfs Into Spirit Camp

By Annabelle Burden

On Jan. 27, 2025 the High School Spirit Squad held a cheer camp. This camp went until the end of the week ending with a performance on Jan. 31, 2025.

The spirit camp consisted of the little kids doing three cheers and one dance. This wasn’t just an ordinary spirit camp, but this year it was a cheer camp and a mascot camp. The cheerleaders led the little girls in cheers and a fun dance while Corky’s helper, Grayson Kuchar, led the boys on how to be a mascot. Kuchar also helped teach the dance to the little kids. The theme was Hawiian night so of course they had to wear their tie dye and dance to surfin’ USA.

One cheerleader, Alexa Betzen, seemed to really enjoy cheer camp. When asked what her favorite part was, she said, “Getting to learn new cheers.” Her favorite cheer was “We Say You Say.” Betzen decided to go to cheer camp, “because I thought it would be really fun and it was.”

Another cheerleader, Leah Harris, also seemed to enjoy cheer camp, but she did wish they could’ve done more. Leah said her favorite part was, “Cheering with pom poms.” She also felt good about their performance.

This was a really fun camp and the cheer team worked very hard for everything to look nice for the crowd. The kids got to work on a lot of things throughout the week and hopefully we will see another performance from them next year.
