Boys Junior High Basketball: Who Are Role Models?

By Sydnie Rae

This year the boy’s junior high basketball head coach is Cody Wolf. Cody does not have an assistant coach.

Landon Goekel is an eighth grade boy on the team. He was asked if he thought being a role model was important how he has been a role model. He said, “I think it is important to be a good role model. I have impacted them by being a leader. I am a leader by settling them down and stopping them from hurting the program we have going on.” Goekel also said that one way the team has improved was, “ We started moving the ball and stopped being selfish.”

Corbin Lucas and Logan Kuchar, both eighth grade boys, were asked similar questions. Lucas said, “As an 8th grader it is an important role, and yes, I believe being a good role model is important because it kind of shows your teammates what you need to do in order to be great.” Kuchar said, “Yes, I like to think I teach them not to be stupid idiots and mess around all the time.” He also said, “One way we improved was working on plays more and we started using our heads.”

As a final question some of the other 8th grade boys were asked, “If you could describe your team in three words, what would they be?” Jett Bohannon said, “Potential, Teamwork, and Improvement,” while Aidan Shore said, “Goofy, Happy, and Joyful,” and Landon Goekel said, “Excellence, Goofy, and Significant.”
