Band From Sterling Gives Outstanding Jazz Performance at South Haven Schools

By Claire Minor

On Mar. 29, 2025, a band from Sterling College performed multiple jazz pieces at South Haven Schools.

One of our teachers at South Haven Schools, Keeley Coon, is the K-12 music educator. Coon actually graduated from Sterling College with degrees in K-12 Music Education & Musical Theatre. Coon was involved with Band, Select Ensemble, Jazz Band, Choir, and Theatre. Coon said “Sterling was a place where I was able to be actively involved in many activities from the moment I got on campus. I met some of my closest friends during my time there.”

Coon said that she is always impressed with Sterling’s level of playing, so when the director reached out to perform at the school, she was very eager to say yes.
With a college band playing, it allows the students to see how many opportunities there are in music. With hard work, it is possible that one of the school’s Cardinals could be playing in a band like that one day.

The students and staff that attended the performance, expressed how much they loved the band. Some of the students even told Coon that they were interested in playing their own instruments in college. With that being said, it is safe to say that many were inspired and entertained. With jaws on the floor, it looks like Sterling can definitely put on an incredible and memorable performance!
