The powerlifting season started out with a virtual meet, in which the South Haven Kids lifted in South Haven. Most of the kids placed really well and were surprised by the results of their lifts and placings.
The next meet was the big 6th Annual Wellington Powerlifting Meet. Many people got to stand on the podium for placings and overall weight, and the girl’s team earned third place with 118 points, while the men’s team, which only had 1 person (Landon Cullens,) got 20th place with 0 points. The junior men’s team, which also had only one person (Dalton Kelly,) got 15th place with 30 points.
Then, the team travelled to the last meet the South Sumner team went to, the 1A State Powerlifting Meet hosted by Conway Springs. The South Sumner girls got runner up with 47 points, only losing by 3 points because the team that beat them had more people.
The coach, Zane Aguilar, was asked how the season went and he said, “Over the last three years, the team went from three to 20 people. The season went with many PRs [personal records], tons of smiles, and many MEMORIES, but hats off to the Lady Outlaws for placing second in state and the many individuals who placed in their overall weight class.”
