River Billey, a sixth grader at South Haven Junior High, has been awarded Student of the Month for April due to her leadership and dedication both inside and outside the classroom. Billey is dedicated to improving and works hard to become the best she can be.
Sarah Osborn, Billey’s Science 6 and STEM/Robotics teacher, notes Billey’s leadership, stating, “she makes sure projects get completed, and she was the first one to get her robot put together.” Billey also won some awards at the robotics competition earlier this year, thanks to the fact she is always improving.
Brian Reid, Billey’s World Civilization teacher, echoed these points, noting that “River was very involved in helping her group members in their final project in social studies,” and that “River works very hard and pushes herself to be one of the best students in a very incredible hour.”
Billey isn’t just involved in robotics, though. She also plays volleyball and basketball. In these activities, as well as her other activities, as Osborn notes, “River keeps trying until she is successful. During a project, she will keep working on it even if her partners are not working and ends up doing more than her share,” demonstrating a dedication to rigor and self-improvement.
Reid also stated that, “River tries to go beyond requirements to get the best grade possible,” and that, “River is focused and helpful.”
