On Friday, Sep. 5, 2025, there was a football game at South Haven Schools where the South Sumner Outlaws played against the Pleasanton Blue Jays. Unfortunately for the Pleasanton Blue Jays, the South Sumner Outlaws won the game! The score at halftime was 6-7 and the final score was 26-7.
One of the four captains on the team, Coal VanZant, is a senior at South Haven Schools. VanZant is an outside linebacker for defense and a wing and tight end on offense for the South Sumner Outlaw football team. VanZant thought that the first half didn’t go too well due to the team’s number of flaws. However, by the second half, they cleaned it up and started playing a lot better.
VanZant thought that he and the team both had their good and bad moments during the game, but started to have some fun during the end. He also said that the biggest challenge during the game was trying to get over the issues that occurred and not doing the little things right. When asked what he would change if one thing could’ve gone different during the game, VanZant said that if the team didn’t get as many penalties as they did, the score would have been much different.
The Outlaws had a great game. The fact that they were able to compete and come out on-top of such an “athletic and well-coached” team (according to our interviewee) is such an amazing achievement to start off the season.
