The first nine weeks of the South Haven 2025-2026 school year have passed as of Oct. 15. Ineligibility rates have gone down, and administration plans for some big events!
Zane Aguilar, currently in his third year of being secondary principal, says it’s been going fast. Sarah Osborn, junior high teacher, agrees with this, saying it’s too soon to really say anything. However, both agree that ineligibility has gone down with students new motive to want to be “apart of something bigger than themselves,” as said by Aguilar. “Hats off to all of our staff. Our staff is doing a great job communicating with the students and their families, and the students are responding very well.”
On a deeper note, Aguiliar wants to get the students and staff together, “continously building those relationships, throughout our entire school.” The fall and winter season brings challenges, according to Aguilar, and he hopes these challenges will bring everyone in the community together. Osborn herself wishes she could help improve the school’s climate, making it welcoming and inclusive.
Senior Gabe Moncivais says he’s been doing fine, but he still has the stress of his club, NASA. Moncivais mentions that the Fry Bread fundraiser may be back, and that they’ve scheduled plenty of Pow Wows. On the other hand, freshman Jayden Woodfin says high school is pretty fun with all the new things it provides, such as street painting, electives, and homecoming activities.
Students are feeling a little challenged as the weeks pass, but also say they are being supported. When asked if she enjoys going to South Haven, middle schooler Josie Metzinger answers, “yes, all the teachers are fun and push me to do harder things so I can understand things better.”
In younger grades, kids enjoy their time so far. Donald Dockery, fifth grader, loves the fact that he can draw and thinks his teacher, Jared Grillot, is fun because he lets them play the learning game Prodigy when they finish work. First grader Evelyn Metzinger says she enjoys science but wants to “stay home all day. Definitely all Saturday.”
Overall, students at South Haven are experiencing some great times and are awaiting the next nine weeks!
