Bad Guys 2: How Dreamworks Tied A Perfect Knot on the Story

By Trista Metzinger

“Bad Guys 2” released on August 1st, 2025 by Dreamworks where the iconic cast of predators contemplates their life after giving up villainy. Spoilers ahead!

The movie brings back all characters from the old one with each getting a satisfying arc. The Bad Guys struggle to make a living without stealing. Diane is still the governor, but we see her and Wolf playfully spar together. The chief now has bangs, and actually helps the Bad Guys – that is, until they “betray” her. The new villains in this movie are a group of girls with their leader, Kitty, devoted to getting all the world’s gold with a giant magnet in space, but they need the Bad Guys’ help. So the Bad Guys go bad again, due to being blackmailed. Kitty has a video of Diane, the governor, being the Crimson Paw, a notorious thief.

We see Wolf’s struggle throughout the movie, and it’s beautiful. We see what he wants, but how the other side is somehow always better. We see how he obviously loves Diane and wants her to keep her job as governor.

It’s also nice seeing all the previous characters come back. Marmalade, for example, is now buff and still just as evil, working with Kitty to help her get her gold magnet.

The story ends with a lesson on hope. Kitty and her gang are defeated and fortunately, despite the fake death, the Bad Guys and Diane now work for a secret agent facilty.

Overall, both movies are absolutely beautiful. Critics and fans like the upgraded animation and character development. However, some do argue that the strong themes of friendship outweigh the second.
