Friday Night Lights: Bidding Farewell to The South Sumner Outlaws’ 2025 Football Season!

By Claire Minor

The last HS football game was Oct. 23, 2025 with The South Sumner Outlaws against the Conway Springs Cardinals. However, the season didn’t end with that loss. They won with their unexpected game against the Goessel Bluebirds on Halloween night (Oct. 31, 2025) with a score of 50-0. That last game was a little different from the rest of the games in the season since they played 8-man instead of 11. The changes to the team this year was the addition of coach, Jaden Brown, and the freshmen boys and they lost all of the 2024 seniors from both Caldwell and South Haven.

A familiar name when it comes to South Haven sports, Maddox Pond (#3), is a Junior at South Haven Schools. Pond said that his favorite game of the season was the game against Goessel because the team went back to their roots with playing 8-man, giving them a sneak-peek on what next year’s season will look like. Pond said that the thing that he is going to miss the most is the chemistry of the team since they have all known and played with each other for so long, especially teammate, Coal VanZant (#44). Pond’s best memory with his team was bowling at the end of the season because they were just boys being boys, messing around, and having fun together. When asked what the advantages and disadvantages of the team this year compared to last year, Pond said that the advantages would be the team’s chemistry and disadvantages would be that the team was really young due to a bunch of 2024 seniors gone, few 2025 seniors, and the majority of the team being lowerclassmen. Pond said that the best team he played this season was the Sterling Blackbears, saying “We couldn’t tackle them” and later on saying that the Outlaws played well on offense as much as they could.

Even though the season didn’t end with the best overall results (3-7), the HS football boys still had a great season that is expected to get better next year when they return to 8-man football!
