On Dec. 5, 2025, there was a pep assembly held in the South Gym for the HS basketball games where the South Haven Cardinals played against the Sedgwick Cardinals later that night.
Right when the South Haven students walked in the door on Friday, every student was given a lei to participate in the rock-paper-scissors competition. Some simple instructions of the game were that if you lost a game of rock-paper-scissors you had to give all of your leis to the person who beat you. With that being said, in the beginning of the pep rally, they had all of the students with the most leis to compete against each other to see who the overall winner was, elementary and JHHS competing separately. After that, they had all of the staff members do the same thing. The elementary winner of the challenge was third grader, Charles Dockerty, the JHHS winner was Sophomore, Will Theurer, and the staff member winner was JH English Teacher, Mr. David Hole.

After the competition was done, both the JH and HS boys and girls basketball teams came down individually, got introduced, and had the coaches and some players speak about the team. When that was finished, they moved onto the game. The four teams were, the JH basketball girls, the JH basketball boys, the HS basketball girls, and the HS basketball boys. The game was called “I-spy” and all of the groups were given the same scenarios and each team had to act it out. A couple of the scenarios were “I-spy hula dancers”, “I spy cheerleaders”, and “I-spy the bus breaking down on the way to an away game and the team has to push it”. All of the teams did very well but it was evident that the HS boys basketball team won with the cheer-for-this-team-if-you-think-they-won yells after the game was done.
As for the actual basketball game, the South Haven Lady Cardinals won 51-35 and the South Haven Cardinals came out with the closest loss possible, with the final score being 37-38. Even though not both teams won, one win is better than none and that is always something to celebrate!
