On January 19, 2026, the South Haven (SH) Cardinals played CedarVale Dexter (CVD) in the North Gym. South Haven won 39 – 34.
The games started with the first few points going CVD, and unfortunately Makenzie Callison sustained a bad injury during the second quarter. But the Cardinals kept giving it their all and managed to take the lead before halftime at 12-10.
This victory did not last long, however, as CVD managed to get a 10 point gap on the Cardinals. But thanks to Kelly Theurer’s three pointer the Cardinals managed to close the gap. The Cardinals were only behind two. 28-30.
The fourth quarter was quickly coming to an end, and the Cards were still just barely behind. Avery Strickland stepped up to make her two free throws. The loud, crowded student section leaned in as she managed to tie the score.
In overtime, the Cardinals managed to keep their lead with more free throws from Addison Heater, Carlee Heater, and Strickland. The game was won.
“It was scary,” Jett Bohannon said when asked how he’d say the game went. Xava Weins, a JV demon, said “it was great”. Everyone agrees it was quite the game.
Lady Cardinals play again at Cowley College on Jan. 22.
