CARDINAL RISE AND SHINE

By Trista Metzinger

On Monday of the first week of February, South Haven hosted their monthly Rise and Shine event.

The event went as usual – Birthdays announced, then Student of the Month awards awarded. The Empathy Award was given to Lindley Edwards, Emeryn Mackeen, Ruby Morland, Wrenley Campbell, Paisley Dewitt, Param Nayee, Chloe Campbell, Everlie Billey, Madi Harris, Adelyn Hadden, Kylie Tompkins, Trista Metzinger, and Carley Russell.

Empathy is defined as the ability to understand and share the emotions of others. As Madi Harris, a fifth grader, describes, “It’s checking on others and making sure they’re okay.” Harris believes that she got the reward from keeping taps on her friends and helping them.

After the award was given, the game was ready to be played. Two students held two pool noodles while two others ran under and switched.

Harris once again said she enjoys Rise and Shine. “I like the games and seeing who gets the awards.”

The next monthly Rise and Shine is March 2.
