From Passion to Podium: FFA Public Speakers Shine

By Michelle Tevington

On January 28, 2026 FFA members took off to Buhler for the South Central District FFA Public Speaking Competition.

Freshman Logan Kuchar and Landon Goeckel competed in the creed speaking contest. In this division of the competition competitors are responsible for reciting the FFA Creed and answer questions about the FFA Creed. Goeckel advanced to the second round and ultimately placed eighth.

Goeckel and Kuchar also competed in the Prepared Public Speaking competition in the freshman division. Goeckel and Kuchar both declined to comment on detailing of their speeches. In the end, Goeckel and Kuchar both did not finish in the top 10.

Emma Wiiest and Brody Heater competed in the prepared public speaking competition in the sophomore division. Wiiest and Heater both declined to engage. Neither had a top ten finish.

Michelle Tevington competed in the prepared public speaking competition in the junior division. Her speech was over the growing gap between show ring livestock and commercial market livestock, and how to bring the two back together. Tevington did not feel as if she performed to her best ability, but was lucky enough to come out with a seventh place finish.
