On Tuesday, March 31, the South Sumner junior high track and field team travelled to Burden to compete. The team has been practicing and preparing for a couple weeks, and after looking at the results their hard work paid off.
Jude Zavala, a seventh grade sprinter, competed in the 75 Meter Hurdles, 4×100 relay, 200 meter dash, and the 4×400 relay. He had placed first in the hurdles, and medaled in everything else. Zavala says that his favorite thing about track is talking to people at other schools . He is very excited to keep competing and to set pr’s.
Eighth grade mid-distance runner Carson Goeckel is in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, long jump, and the 4×400 relay. He placed in the long jump and the 4×400. Goeckel feels like he was not prepared at all for the long jump. His favorite thing about going to the meets is talking to girls.
The next junior high track and field meet is on April 9, again at Burden. Goeckel and Zavala both feel confident and ready to compete again.
