National FFA Week, Week of February 23

FFA Week started on Saturday, February 21st.

Sunday, February 22nd

FFA officers and members were invited to attend the morning church service at South Haven Baptist Church in FFA official dress. Most of the South Haven FFA officers were present. 

Monday, February 23rd – PJ Monday

For the dress-up days, all 6th-12th grade students were encouraged to dress up for FFA Week. Monday’s theme was “Farmer’s Day Off,” so students wore pajamas.

President Annabelle Burden and Vice President Araili Wartick distributed elementary school coloring contest pages before lunch. FFA members will judge the coloring contest entries and announce the winners sometime later in the week.

Tuesday, February 24th – Ag College Day

Tuesday’s dress-up day theme was Ag College Day; students were encouraged to wear an ag college T-shirt.

For teacher appreciation, teachers received donuts in the teachers’ lounge.

Members had hamburgers and chips for member appreciation.

During agriculture classes, students participated in community service activities. Students traveled with Mr. Stroman to collect trash from the ditches. 

Wednesday, February 25th – Hat Day

For Wednesday’s dress-up day, students were allowed to wear a hat of their choice.

During Cardinal Time, teams competed in Farm Olympics. The event activities included:  

  • A three legged race with a partner over to a stack of t-posts. 
  • Two t-posts were driven into spray painted circles.
  • Three hula hoops were thrown at the t-posts until they went on, from a painted circle.
  • Everyone on the team then jumped over a stack of hay bales. 
  • Two people searched for an egg blindfolded in a tub of hay and the other 4 people unstacked and restacked the pile of hay bales. 
  • Then 1 person ran back with the egg on a spoon trying not to drop it. 

The winning team was Mr. Reid, Daylen Hallman, Landon Cullens, Dalton Kelly, Ruger Shore and Adele Helsel. 

The top 2 teams won ice cream sandwiches, unfortunately second place did not win the pride.

Thursday, February 26th (Day 4) – Dress Up as Stroman Day

On Thursday, students dressed as Mr. Stroman, showcasing their best Stroman gear.

During Cardinal Time, some high school and junior high students competed in Fear Factor.

The only two individuals remaining after the first two rounds were Avalin Huges and Gwen Gould.

Coloring contest pictures were picked up from elementary students at the end of the day.

Friday, February 27th (Day 5) – FFA Chapter Shirt / Wear Blue and Gold Day

On Friday, students wore their FFA Chapter shirt or dressed in blue and gold to support FFA.

During Cardinal Time, the hot dog eating contest took place.

Participants included Maddox Pond, Cole Spencer, Corbin Lucas, Antonio Trillo, Carson Geokel, Logan Kuchar, Laren Kuchar, Landon Cullens, Carson Lucas, Jax, Ruger Shore, Dalton Kelly, Brody Heater and Daylen Hallman, some participants may have been missed due to last minute entries. The winner was Maddox “Hotdog” Pond, who ate 6 hotdogs. Brody Heater and Antonio Trillo were second and third place. Congratulations to them!

Friday afternoon the coloring contest winners were announced. The winners are as follows:
