Highschool Softball JV Squad Plays Against Central Burden

By Xava Wiens

On Friday Mar. 27, 2026, the high school junior varsity team played against Central Burden. After a long and cold evening, the South Sumner softball team had won one and lost one, with the final scores being 9-8, 2-15.

Sophomore JV starter, Adalyn Irey, believed the most challenging part of the game was fighting the cold and windy weather, this is because it made it challenging to throw and bat. Irey thought that the game would have been a whole lot better if the weather was less windy and cold. Irey plays the third base position, her favorite part about that spot is that it’s fun and fast.

Makenzie Trillo, a ninth grade outfielder, has been playing softball for “one month.” So far this season she’s been liking softball a lot. Trillo thinks that they won their first game because they had a lot of energy and they were ready to go, she also believed they lost the second one because it was cold and windy, and that they all just wanted to go home.

The South Sumner Outlaw JV team plays again on Thursday Apr. 2 against Sedan in Sedan. Trillo and Irey both have high expectations and believe they can take home the win.
