On October 4, 2024 the South Sumner Cross Country team ran at Winfield. This is a bigger meet with many schools that attend. The High School South Sumner girls ran junior varsity while the High School South Sumner boys ran varsity. There were several illnesses and some injuries so the full team was not either at their best or running at all. 

Winfield is normally a very hot meet and it has a relatively flat course with a few hills. This meet was a pretty toasty meet but with the cooling rags Coach Joe Halling brought it helped the runners quite a bit.

The high school runners who ran at Winfield were Annabelle Burden, Makenzie Callison, Addison Heater, Keelen Eaton, Zak Eaton, and Eli Buettgenbach. The majority of the high schoolers medaled. 

The season is coming to a close with a meet at Eureka, Newton, and Caldwell, the home meet and league meet, and after that, South Sumner high school athletes get into postseason meets which are the Cross Country Regional Meet at Bishop Caroll and the Cross Country State Meet at Wagemgo.
