JH Track Athletes Shine at Oxford Meet

By Jayden Woodfin

At the JH track meet in Oxford on April 14, athletes showed strong performances while supporting each other as a team.

Carson Goeckel competed in multiple events, including the 100m, 400m, long jump, and pole vault, and placed third in all of them while helping his 4x400m relay team take first. He said he handles stress by stretching and talking with others, keeping things relaxed before events.

When it comes to improving, Goeckel makes sure he understands his coaches’ feedback by repeating it and then applying it the best he can. He also helps create a positive team environment by talking with teammates and cheering them on, especially during relays.

Jude Zavala also had a strong meet, earning first place in his running event. He keeps things simple when dealing with stress, saying he drinks sweet tea to stay calm.

Zavala focuses on helping others to build a positive team atmosphere and supports his teammates by cheering loudly during their events. Overall, the team showed both individual success and strong teamwork throughout the meet.
