Outlaw Track Athletes Exhibit Solid Commitment During Recent Competition

By Jayden Woodfin

During a recent track and field meet, Outlaw track and field athletes Xava Wiens and Landon Goeckel made big contributions to their teams with both strong performances and differing styles of competing.

Wiens, primarily a runner, put together an exceptional meet with three separate Top 10 finishes. Wiens’ training routine of five days of running and six days of weight training including presuming to complete a short easy run and eats food leading up to each meet prepares her for all aspects of competition.

Wiens believes that she manages pre-race anxiety by keeping things simple and utilizing calmness and focus to guide her through the competition. Even when she is unable to achieve a goal through competition, he learns something from each race and moves on.

Goeckel, also a runner, displayed outstanding results at the same meet he finished second, third, fifth, and sixth. Goeckel’s more laid-back style of competing and practicing focuses on just showing up to practices consistently. He admits to having little anxiety with respect to pressure or a formal competition goal, but would still like to qualify for the state.
