South Haven’s Third and Fourth Graders are Digging their Salt Plains Field Trip

By Trista Metzinger

On Apr 24, 2026, the third and fourth graders from South Haven went on a trip to Salt Plains.

Fourth grader Lexi Betzen said they dug in the sand, went to the lake to eat lunch, and went on the walking and driving path. Betzen says her favorite part was digging up the crystals, with which Rowdy Theurer agreed.

A third grader, Theurer, was disappointed to find out the fourth graders got ice cream near the end of their field trip. Still, Theuer said he had fun digging up crystals with Sloan Stroman.

On the paths, the kids reported seeing big tadpoles, frogs, turtles, birds, and a few horses.

Overall, both kids really enjoyed the trip.
